A national strategy for equality
The Gender Equality Strategy 2030 was adopted by the Federal Council on 28 April 2021. It is the Confederation's first national strategy aimed specifically at promoting equality between women and men.
Areas of action and objectives
Each area of action contains a general objective and several specific objectives aimed at achieving gender equality. The ‘gender-specific violence’ area of action also contains the 44 measures of the National Action Plan 2022-2026 for the implementation of the Istanbul Convention (NAP CI).
Area of Action 1
Work and public life
Women's economic autonomy is strengthened throughout their lives, regardless of their marital status or family situation.
Area of Action 2
Balance between work and family life
Women and men benefit from general conditions that favour the balance of private, family and working life, as well as a balanced distribution of paid and unpaid work, both domestic and family-related.
Area of Action 3
Gender-specific violence
Violence against women and domestic violence are decreasing and women's personal safety is improving.
Area of Action 4
Discrimination
Discrimination, sexism and gender stereotypes are no longer socially tolerated and no longer limit the lifestyles of women and men.

Implementation at all levels
Coordination
The Federal Office for Gender Equality (FOGE) is responsible for coordinating the action plans of the Gender Equality Strategy 2030 and the Istanbul Convention. At operational level, the measures are implemented by the entities responsible.
Interdepartmental committee
An interdepartmental committee, led by the FOGE, ensures that the strategy is fully embedded in the Federal Administration. It meets at regular intervals, generally twice a year.
